CL VFDs Application Note APN1305. DESIGN GUIDANCEStandard CL VFD's line up, covers most of popular dot configurations. If you do not find a suitable CL VFD dot configuration in our standard line up, we will be pleased to design a custom CL VFD as well. Please use the following general design guide for your initial design.
5.1 Number of Silicon Chips and Glass Package SizeThere are 2 types of silicon chips available as of August 1998, their dot pitches are 0.347mm and 0.308mm. Both of them have 16 x 16 dot matrix configuration per chip. Minimum number of the chip per VFD tube is "ONE", and the maximum is up to about 20 chips per array or 40 chips for 2 rows. The relationship between the number of chips and the outer dimension of glass package is shown in the following table.
Table 4 Number of Chips and Glass Package Size
5.2 Multi-Line Chip ArrayRequired space between lines of silicon chips is as follows.Table 5 Minimum Space Between Line
5.3 Combination with Conventional VFD's Display PatternThe silicon chips of CL VFDs can be combined with conventional custom designed display pattern as shown in Figure 15.The silicon chips can also be combined with BD VFD technologies. (c.f.APN140). Please contact us for details.
5.4 Lead pinsThe standard lead pin form of the CL VFDs is 6.0mm length and 2.0mm pitch. The dimensions of standard lead pin is shown in Figure 16. Custom lead pin from is also available upon request.
